Toyota has added vehicle stability control and traction control as standard equipment on its 1.5 litre Yaris hatch and sedan models.
The Yaris line-up has also been expanded to include two 1.5 litre hatch models, including the top-of-the-line 'Edge' model.
Toyota New Zealand General Manager of Sales and Operations, Steve Prangnell said vehicle stability control and traction control had been specifically engineered for the 1.5 litre engine in Yaris.
"Toyota is committed to adding safety features to its vehicles as and when they become available for our market," Mr Prangnell said.
"The addition of vehicle stability control and traction control to the Yaris models fitted with the 1.5 litre engine can potentially reduce the number and severity of accidents."
Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) helps maintain vehicle control during cornering, and Traction Control (TRC) helps optimise traction when accelerating on slippery surfaces.
All Yaris models feature driver and passenger front, front seat side and front/rear curtain shield airbags. Hatch models also offer a driver's knee airbag.
Toyota has extended the Yaris hatch 1.5 litre line-up from one model to two.
The five door T150 model has a four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission, 15" steel wheels, tilt and telescopically adjustable leather steering wheel with audio controls, air conditioning, and ISO fix child seat anchor points.
The top-of-the-line 'Edge' model adds 15" alloy wheels, upgraded seat fabric, front seat back pockets, passenger's seat under tray, front fog lights and a sports style body kit.
The sports style body kit includes a body coloured front grille, front bumper skirt, side skirts, rear bumper skirt and a roof spoiler.
Grade names have been introduced across the Yaris line-up, with 1.3 litre three door and five door hatch models now named T130.
These 1.3 litre models have been upgraded to include body coloured door handles and outside rear view mirrors.
All Yaris models recently received improved audio systems with the addition of Bluetooth handsfree phone capability and a USB jack with iPod control. The Yaris MP3/WMA compatible CD player also has a 3.5mm audio input jack.
The recommended retail pricing is $28,990 for the T150 model and $31,800 for the 'Edge' model. The Yaris sedan has a recommended retail price of $30,540.
