Fortuner, Toyota’s seven seater SUV due to launch in 2016, could be spotted around Auckland in the next couple of months.
Based on the all new Hilux ute, which goes on sale in December, the Fortuner will be powered by Toyota’s newly developed 2.8 litre turbo diesel engine, with the choice of six speed automatic or a manual gearbox.
With the increasing demand for the SUV with on-road off-road capability, the Fortuner will join the already extensive Toyota SUV line up; the petrol engine Highlander, the RAV4, FJ Cruiser, Land Cruiser Prado and Land Cruiser 200 series.
The Fortuner has a distinctive full length body featuring three rows of seats, where the 60:40 split second row slides and tumbles to give easy access to the two rear seats.
The Fortuner sits on a five link coil spring rear suspension, instead of the Hilux’s leaf springs while the interior offers a refined feel, with car-like materials and a high level of standard equipment.
Satellite Navigation, leather upholstery and paddle shifters for the automatic transmission are available on some models.
All will have the option of two or four wheel drive selected by a centre console dial and offer a comprehensive list of safety features including a reversing camera and seven airbags collectively protecting all three rows of seats. Trailer sway control is a standard safety feature.
More model information and pricing will be announced closer to the vehicles launch in early 2016.
