Toyota New Zealand is recalling a number of Prius v Hybrid vehicles for a possible fault with the current software settings.
The recall is a small part of a worldwide recall with only 177 of the impacted vehicles in New Zealand.
The recall is due to the current software settings for the motor / generator control ECU and hybrid control ECU which could result in higher thermal stress in certain transistors of the power converter (DC-AC invertor), potentially causing them to become damaged.
Spencer Morris, General Manager of Customer Services said, “Toyota New Zealand is not aware of any incidents caused by this condition. However our commitment to quality and customer support means we want to ensure all owners of affected vehicles are notified and their vehicle software is updated."
The vehicles affected by the recall in New Zealand are Toyota Prius v Hybrid vehicles manufactured from September 2010 to November 2014.
Owners of the vehicles, which are traceable through registration data, will be contacted by Toyota New Zealand.
For all affected vehicles, Toyota dealers will update the software which will take approximately 1 hour.
