New Hilux prices announced before December launch

Toyota has announced the prices of the all new Hilux ahead of its launch on 1 December.

The 21 model line-up starts with the 2WD cab chassis at $36,990 with the new range topping 4WD double cab SR5 Limited at $70,490.

Five of the 2WD models will have the same ground clearance and ride height as the 4WD models. These “Pre-Runner” models are priced between $44,990 and $54,990 and are all double cab models.

“The Pre-Runner models are for those buyers who want the ride height of a 4WD for its better visibility and ground clearance, but don’t need the 4WD capability,” said Spencer Morris, Toyota New Zealand’s General Manager of Product Planning.

There are nine 2WD models in all, four with automatic options to suit the large number of urban buyers, ranging from $36,990 to $54,990.

Twelve 4WD models complete the Hilux range, a segment of the ute market where Toyota has been the undisputed number one for the last 27 years. 4WD models range in price from $51,990 to $70,490.

“There is a lot of interest in new Hilux from both existing owners and others entering the market for a ute, especially as the segment now meets the wider needs of Customers who may have previously been sedan or SUV buyers” said Steve Prangnell, Toyota New Zealand’s General Manager of Sales. “That’s a key reason for our expanded model range”

“We already have a good bank of advanced orders,” said Mr Prangnell. “And announcing pricing in advance of launch will help potential buyers with deciding which Hilux within our new line-up will best suit them.”

The completely rebuilt Hilux features the all new 2.8 litre diesel engine from the Land Cruiser Prado fitted to 18 of the 21 models, while a 4.0 litre, V6 petrol engine powers the remaining three models.

Depending on the model, the new diesel engine produces up to 450 Nm of torque from 1600 to 2400rpm, the rev range that drivers spend the large majority of their time in.

New six speed automatic and manual transmissions are available on SR, SR5 and SR5 Limited grades, which for some models results in a maximum braked towing capacity of up to 3500 kgs.

New Zealand’s entire 2016 Hilux range will arrive in the market with a 2015, five star ANCAP crash test rating thanks to seven airbags, vehicle stability control, active traction control, anti-lock brakes with brake assist, electronic brakeforce distribution and trailer sway control.

All well-side models come standard with a reversing camera and every model has hill start assist control.

The Hilux will be available in four specification grades, with the S models, available in 2WD only, and SR models aimed at those buyers who want a “work” truck for rural, forestry, civil engineering and other uses.  The SR5 and SR5 Limited models will suit the needs of those who want a dual role vehicle, for recreational and family use as well as day to day work requirements.
