Toyota New Zealand is recalling a number of Toyota 86 and GT 86 models due to concerns with the electronic power steering (EPS) wire harness.
Impacted models include the Toyota 86 and GT 86 manufactured between April 2012 and March 2015.
The recall is due to the possibility that under certain conditions, vibrations of the EPS wire harness which can occur during driving may cause oxidisation in the wire harness connector. This could create resistance within the connector and cause the EPS warning light to activate and steering assist to disable.
The announcement is part of a global recall involving 23,400 vehicles worldwide. Of this number, 529 vehicles are New Zealand new.
Toyota New Zealand will contact the owners of the vehicles which are traceable through registration data.
The remedy will be completed free of charge by Toyota dealerships and is expected to take approximately 1-2 hours.
There have been no reported accidents worldwide as a result of this condition.
