Heritage Expeditions has been sharing New Zealand's unique and remote islands, coasts and shorelines with small groups on their purpose-built expedition ships for 35 years. Operating out of Christchurch, the family business provides voyages to Antarctica, the Sub Antarctic Islands of New Zealand and Australia, Indonesia, Melanesia, and the Russian Far East. Contributing to conservation through experiential learning and funding research, Heritage Expeditions are pioneers in environmentally responsible and authentic expedition travel.
The COVID-19 pandemic, which forced the world into lockdown and closed international borders, meant Heritage Expeditions had to postpone their expeditions in the Russian Far East this year. Owner Aaron Russ says that while this has heavily impacted the business, it has also denied many intrepid explorers the opportunity to experience their once-in-a-lifetime adventures.
Through the Small Business Driver initiative, Toyota has stepped in to grant Heritage Expeditions a Toyota Highlander, which Aaron says has increased their ability to get out and in front of New Zealanders, allowing for ease of access to locations where they can promote their upcoming summer expeditions to Kiwis during road trips. The Highlanders’ hardworking credentials will also be put to use by Heritage Expeditions operations team providing essential logistics support when the company’s ship is in port.
Heritage Expeditions’ robust vessels has been taking people to rugged and remote locations for decades – places that would otherwise be out of bounds for humans to visit. If exploring untouched, remote and wildlife-filled locations sounds like you, check out their website here.
