Small Business Driver: HRC Events

If you’ve attended a motorsport event throughout the North Island recently, chances are it was organised by HRC Events – who along with their sister company the Historic Racing Club Inc, deliver dozens of exciting motorsport meetings and circuit-based events every year. Their aim is to work at a club and individual level, encouraging and supporting anyone who wants to get started in the sport.

HRC Events’ portfolio includes a selection of popular club and historic motorsport events, adding up to more than twenty quality circuit racing events every year.

Although they are relatively small, HRC Events have a large impact on the ability of club racers to compete in New Zealand, with many individuals who started their careers at HRC race meeting now emerging at a professional racer level.

Like all events-based businesses, Covid-19 impacted HRC Events in a profound way, leading to the cancellation of four of their major race meetings – worth over 55% of their annual revenue. During the lockdown period, HRC Events have had to rethink their business plan for 2020/21 and find innovative ways of encouraging competitors to return to the sport, whilst reviewing costs to enable them to compete.

Receiving a Toyota Highlander through Toyota’s Small Business Driver initiative has been a much-needed morale boost for HRC Events. They have also partnered with GRGarage Powered by NSTechnical (Part of North Shore Toyota) who have sign-written the vehicle as a Motorsport Course Car to advertise HRC Events and to recognise the generosity of Toyota. The vehicle is being used to transport volunteer race marshals to and from their events, and also used as a circuit vehicle while events are in progress.
