Hello Cup is a New Zealand made and designed menstrual cup business with an impressive goal - eliminating a billion single-use tampons and pads from the world’s landfills by 2023. With each Hello Cup designed to last up to five years, it’s easy to see why the menstrual cup revolution is taking off!
Disappointed by the fact that more than 45 billion tampons and single-use sanitary pads end up in landfills globally each year, Hello Cup founders Mary and Robyn developed their company to make quality menstrual cups accessible to Kiwi women. Hello Cup’s products are proudly manufactured in Napier and dispatched by their passionate team in Wellington.
Hello Cup rely heavily on retail orders, which were halted entirely during Level 4 lockdown. Their second source of income, which comes from sales through their retailers, was also impacted heavily by lockdowns as physical retail stores closed. The impact on the business has been massive, but the team are determined to keep their heads high and focus on growing their online sales to keep their business afloat. Adopting the tagline “periods don’t stop for lockdowns, so neither do we,” shows Hello Cup’s attitude of perseverance and positivity in the face of challenging times.
As a business based in both Hawke’s Bay and Wellington, one of Hello Cup’s big financial challenges is the money spent on freight – physically moving Hello Cups from Napier from Wellington. As recipients of the Toyota Small Business Driver initiative, Hello Cup now freights much of their own product in their Toyota Highlander, saving them huge amounts of money. They’ve also used the Mediaworks advertising package to continue communicating their eco-friendly messages to the public, which has made a world of difference.
