For over a decade, Solomons Gold have been assisting local Solomon Islands landowners to produce one of the world’s purest forms of single-origin cacao, simultaneously improving the standard of living in these communities. The pandemic has been merciless for small businesses, even ones that specialise in chocolate – and Solomons Gold has definitely felt the pinch. With a 70% drop in revenue in the first half of 2020, the team had to cut their marketing budget by almost half, and were unable to get their chocolates into new stores due to supermarkets not ranging new products. Rebuilding post-lockdown has been a day-by-day process for the Solomons Gold team.
Being a recipient of Toyota’s Small Business Driver initiative has allowed Solomons Gold to continue their important work building communities in the Pacific, being kind to the planet, and providing consumers with the finest chocolate. The team have been using the Toyota Highlander to promote their business locally through store visits and events, while the advertising package has been put to good use to drive their messages of sustainability and health.
