Toyota to reveal the new generation Land Cruiser Prado at Fieldays®

Enjoying the great kiwi outdoors and getting adventurous with Toyota is what the marque is bringing to Fieldays® this year with their strongest SUV and Ute line up ever, including the new generation Land Cruiser Prado and NZ’s first Hilux Hybrid at the forefront.

Fans of the famous Land Cruiser Prado will get an exclusive first look at the pre-production version of the new Prado at Fieldays® only. Prado will be arriving for test drives in August and customer deliveries, for which orders are now open, will start in October.

Andrew Davis, Toyota New Zealand Vice President Mobility Group, says the Prado has undergone its first major design upgrade in 15 years.

“There’s been a lot of interest in Prado already as one of our legacy models, so we are really excited for our customers to come and check it out,” he says.

“The new Prado’s rugged style has officially gone back to its roots. It holds its own as a genuine, high-quality off-roader, with the benefit of modern technology, improved performance, and is the first Land Cruiser to transition to a hybrid powertrain featuring a 48V Hybrid System matched to a 2.8L diesel engine. We are extremely excited to show it off to our customers first at Fieldays®,” he adds.

Fieldays® is the highlight of the year for many folks across the country and Toyota will be welcoming them all to their mighty canvas palace with 13 products on display.

Andrew says Toyota will bring its strongest product lineup yet to Fieldays® with new lower emission models and a strong showcase of accessories.

“We have something for everyone this year. Our SUV range is now largely available in hybrid electric powertrains, as we continue to transition to electrified models where we can with a focus on capability, safety, and affordability,” he says.

“We’re ensuring kiwis have the best possible vehicle that is safe on roads while being capable off road to get around our rugged country, carry heavy loads, and is adventure ready.

“Whether you’re after a weekend warrior, rugged off-roader, work horse, or you need the custom gear, we’ve got it all. Plus, we have a great Hilux finance offer and gift with purchase,” Andrew says.

Complimenting the new-generation Land Cruiser Prado and Hilux Hybrid will be the legendary and refreshed Land Cruiser 70, Land Cruiser 300, RAV4 Adventure, and NZ’s favourite Corolla Cross.

Underlying the adventure message, will be the equally important theme of reducing our impact on the planet, with yet more lower emitting vehicles.

“While we all love Utes and SUVs that can go anywhere, we also love this country and want to preserve our kiwi way of life in a less impactful way, this is why we are ambitious about adopting new electrified technologies once they become available,” Andrew says. “Hybrid Prado and Hilux can still be the best vehicles they are known for without compromising on performance.”

Again this year, the Toyota Fieldays® site will be powered by hydrogen – one of the most abundant elements in the universe.  In partnership with a European technology company, Toyota developed a hydrogen-powered generator using a fuel cell similar to the power unit inside the hydrogen-powered Toyota Mirai car. The EODev GEH2 will be inside the tent silently providing power to the stand while emitting nothing but a few drops of warm water.

To underscore that commitment to the environment and the New Zealand lifestyle, four famous Kiwis, who are also Toyota Brand Guardians, will be in attendance in the Toyota big tent. Fishing enthusiasts will be able to get the latest tips and go in the draw to win a fishing trip with legendary fisherman Matt Watson, who will be in the Toyota tent on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of Fieldays. Olympian Dame Valerie Adams will be there on Wednesday, Willie Apiata on Friday, Cameron Leslie on Saturday, and Marc Ellis will be hanging out in the tent on Wednesday and Thursday.

For those perhaps too young or not interested in sticking their head under a bonnet, there will be a range of fun activities and beverages in the Toyota tent. Everyone can test their camping skills with an ‘adventure camping challenge’ competition and smaller kids can colour in a Hilux or change a mini-Hilux wheel with plenty of prizes on offer.

While it is a celebration and demonstration of new vehicles, Fieldays® is also a chance to sit down and talk turkey about a new vehicle for the farm or block. To further grease the wheel of commerce, Toyota will have a special Fieldays®-only 4.9% Hilux finance offer and special YETI gift with purchase for all orders made onsite.

Orders will also be taken at Fieldays® for the 2024 Land Cruiser Prado, which has had multiple upgrades and revisions. The 48V Hybrid System doesn’t compromise performance, 4WD capability or towing capability to 3,500kg.

Prado will be available in New Zealand in four grades. The Adventure model will be focused on off-roading performance with a rear differential lock, and stabiliser disconnect mechanism, while the VX Limited will be positioned as the more premium grade with adaptive variable suspension.
