Toyota’s commitment to its ever-improving hybrid technology was celebrated with the RAV4 and C-HR hybrids winning significant awards in the 2024 AA DRIVEN NZ Car of the Year.
The Toyota RAV4, New Zealand’s top-selling passenger car in 2024, was voted by the public as the People’s Choice, cementing its position at the top of the market by taking the number one spot for the fourth time in five years. The Toyota Hilux came away with third place in the same category, a ute that’s been loved by Kiwis for decades.
Only available with the fuel-efficient and low-emitting hybrid powertrain, the RAV4 offers a smooth ride, advanced technology, and five models to suit the needs of today’s active lifestyle.
Toyota New Zealand Assistant Vice President Customer Group, Susanne Hardy, expressed her delight at the recognition: “We are thrilled that the RAV4 has resonated so well with our customers. Our decision to offer hybrid-only options has clearly paid off, with electrified vehicles now representing 55 percent of our local new vehicle sales. It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come since the Prius was our only hybrid. Today, we offer 15 new or nearly new hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and battery electric vehicles.”
The 2024 C-HR, also only available with the hybrid powertrain, was voted by the AA DRIVEN judges to be the best City SUV on the market in New Zealand today.
Designed and built in Europe, the new incarnation of the Toyota C-HR is extremely popular with urban drivers who appreciate the small SUV’s hybrid fuel economy combined with practicality and ‘look-at-me’ angular lines.
Toyota’s success in local sales and car awards is driven by a commitment to reducing tailpipe carbon emissions and making cars that are fun to drive and bring joy to their owners and passengers.
“The RAV4 and C-HR epitomises our commitment to keep improving our cars and keep styling up-to-date,” Susanne added. “The unique two-tone paint options for the RAV4 Adventure, such as Ash Grey paired with Arctic Dawn or Safari Green, ensure it stands out wherever you go.”
“And as for Hilux taking out third place in the People’s Choice, we are always pleased to see a favourite of ours continue to be a favourite for Kiwis.”
Customers can get a RAV4 in less than a month and is available in five models with price points and features to suit. The wait time for a C-HR is around four months.
