As we evolve from a traditional car company to a mobility company, our commitment to sustainability echoes out through our communities, our fleet electrification, and our dedication to provide mobility for all.
The future is electric, and this year we launched our first All-Electric car, the bZ4X SUV. It’s the start of a range of upcoming All-Electric cars that will be launched in New Zealand in years to come. The bZ4X will introduce new technology with zero emissions.
We are committed to reducing 46% of our greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, 84% of these are from the tailpipe emissions of the vehicles we sell. With over 55% of our new vehicles sold in 2024 being electrified, we are making positive and necessary progress towards our 2030 emissions target. We've also focused on whole-of-life product stewardship from battery and tyre recycling, to a trial for bumper recycling. These are all steps on our journey towards a sustainable future.
In 2022, we partnered with The Ākina Foundation and Manukau Urban Māori Authority (MUMA) to launch the Waka Aronui programme, designed to help South Auckland whānau into low emission vehicles. The programme provides safe and reliable hybrid Toyota Corolla station wagons at an affordable weekly price. Delivering both social impact through fuel savings and environmental impact through lower emissions – it's a positive step towards mobility for all.
Through our community partnerships, we aim to have a positive impact on society. We reach these through our network of over 60 Stores who have deep community connections.
Grassroots sports is an important focus area at both Store and company level. Sport improves the social fabric of communities and teaches children about being competitive, building resilience and leadership.
Our belief in sport as a builder of wellbeing links to our support for Emirates Team New Zealand and Paralympic and Olympic athletes.
TOYOTA GAZOO Racing New Zealand (TGRNZ) continues the journey towards a more sustainable future, after a successful test programme using carbon-neutral fuel. The test programme confirmed there was no significant loss of performance or reliability. The fuel was used for the first time in this year’s Castrol Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Championship (CTFROC), and work on implementation of that fuel for the Toyota 86 Championship has started.
TGRNZ is Toitū Enviromark Bronze certified and is working to the next level, Gold certified.
