Proud Partners of Kai Ika Wellington

Published 5 November 2024

Words can’t describe the importance of The Kai Ika Project -Wellington and the special team behind the scenes that work so passionately to support those in need within the Wellington community.

Kai Ika Wellington’s mission is to minimise the impact on the marine environment through better utilisation of our natural resources. They encourage giving respect to each and every fish harvested and ensure no part of the fish is wasted. When stripped back to the bare necessities, food insecurity is an environmental issue. Kai Ika aims to connect New Zealanders and encourage collaboration with outside communities through the appreciation of all parts of kai moana. They hope to adjust people’s perception that fish heads are actually a revered food source.

We are very proud to announce our new partnership with Kai Ika Wellington. Rutherford & Bond and King Toyota Marketing Manager Phoebe, says, “Kai Ika Wellington is renowned for the important work they do in promoting sustainable practices and supporting local communities through providing a healthy source of protein to people who need it most. Food insecurity is sadly a reality for many families here in Wellington, and Kai Ika is working hard to mitigate this. We are proud to support such an important cause.”

Both Phoebe, and Derek, Rutherford & Bond and King Toyota CEO, were fortunate to be invited to an evening (1st photo above) celebrating Kai Ika Wellington along with many others who have supported the running of the incredible charity. The evening included a three-course meal kindly made by ‘Everybody Eats'; all courses included fish and were a great reminder that beautiful meals can be made with fish heads, frames, and offal. It was a humbling evening with people of many different backgrounds coming together with one common interest, supporting Kai Ika Wellington.
