Early pacesetters at Hampton Downs
New names to the fore as drivers adapt to the rise and fall of Hampton Downs.
Brendon Leitch is back on form.
After a bruising first two rounds of the Castrol Toyota Racing Series, the southern driver has put in two impressive performances in the opening practice sessions for round three at Hampton Downs.
The opening round of the 'twilight practice' this afternoon saw Leitch third overall while French racer Charles Milesi was fastest. In warm humid conditions the whole field broke into the 1:01 laps, Milesi the only one to crack the one minute lap barrier, posting 1:00.954 on lap 19 of 21. At the end of the session, the top three were Milesi, Cameron Das second on 1:01.217 and Leitch put in his fastest of 1:01.227 a lap later to be third.
Then in session two, Championship leader Marcus Armstrong and Leitch topped the timesheets with fast early laps. making the pair a Kiwi 1-2 with Richard Verschoor third.
Armstrong's 1;03.939 stood as fastest lap of the session though he went off in the closing laps.
