Cordeel out of Castrol Toyota Racing Series
Belgium’s Amaury Cordeel has been forced to withdraw from the remaining rounds of the 2020 Castrol Toyota Racing Series following his accident in practice at Highlands Motorsport Park last week.
The 17 year old made contact with the wall at the final turn after a high speed spin and his car was then hit by the car of Jose Blanco. The accident occurred towards the end of Friday’s final practice session ahead of the first round.
Cordeel was assessed for concussion on Friday evening at Christchurch Hospital and advised by doctors to miss the remaining rounds of what is a very compact championship run over five consecutive weekends.
“It is a real shame to lose Amaury as he had gone well in testing and as a Formula 4 champion, would have been one of the likely front runners in the championship,” said category manager Nico Caillol. “The most important thing for him now is recovery of course and not taking any risks of further concussion until he is completely recovered.
“We’ll miss him and everyone at the series wishes him a speedy recovery and we hope we will see him back again next year to show everyone how good he is.”
The Castrol Toyota Racing Series heads to Teretonga in New Zealand’s South Island for the second round of the championship. Local favourite and Red Bull Junior Liam Lawson leads the points after the first round at Highlands Motorsport Park in Cromwell.
