FT-60s to race at Singapore Grand Prix

W Series, the international single-seater motor racing championship for women, has confirmed that it will race in Singapore in support of the Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix 2022 on 30 September-2 October.

The race at the Marina Bay Street Circuit will be W Series’ first in Asia and replaces the previously announced event in Japan as the seventh race of the 2022 season. Due to unforeseeable operational challenges, the W Series race at the Japanese Grand Prix 2022 on 7-8 October will no longer take place.

It means that the Castrol TRS fleet of Toyota FT-60s, originally scheduled to run in Japan as part of W Series two race agreement to use the cars, will now be used in Singapore.

Toyota sent 18 of its FT-60 cars to be used by W Series at their rounds at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Spain, and Japan. A landmark deal, it is the first time that junior formula categories have worked together to stage a championship.
 
The cars will return to New Zealand from Singapore in November to begin preparations for the 2023 Castrol Toyota Racing Series. Several cars have remained in New Zealand for Toyota’s on-going testing and development programme ahead of the 2023 Championship.

Reigning double champion Jamie Chadwick won the first five races of W Series’ record 10-race 2022 campaign. The season-opening double-header in Miami, USA, was followed by races in Barcelona, Spain and Silverstone, UK – which attracted a peak UK TV audience of more than one million viewers and the highest-ever race audience in W Series history – and Le Castellet, France.
