Castrol TRS star gets Williams F1 seat
Williams have confirmed Franco Colapinto as the replacement for Logan Sargeant for the remainder of the 2024 Formula One season.
It’s very much ‘keeping it in the family’ for Williams which is moving a driver into the F1 seat from its own Junior programme. Franco has been going well in F2 and is a race winner as well as a front runner in the highly competitive F2 Championship.
At TGRNZ we remember him as a young rookie in the memorable 2020 season of Castrol TRS, the first year we ran the FT60 car. And Franco came with TOYOTA GAZOO Racing backing from Argentina.
He was one of the stars of the season and came away third overall in the championship, winning at Hampton Downs in a great campaign for Kiwi Motorsport. Most notably, he beat Yuki Tsunoda to third place in the championship behind Igor Fraga and Liam Lawson.
