Wood and Shepherd set pace in Manfeild practice

Ryan Wood and Rowan Shepherd topped a practice session each as the third round of the Best Bars Toyota 86 Championship got underway on Friday with the official testing sessions.

Wood topped the first session and was only narrowly beaten by Shepherd in the second. Championship leader Simon Evans clocked the sixth and seventh fastest times in the two sessions.

Brock Gilchrist and Ronan Murphy gave notice of intent for their weekends with consistency that saw them in the top five for both sessions while local racer Justin Allen was another to enjoy a solid day behind the wheel, clocking the second fastest time in the opening session before following it up with fifth in the afternoon session.

A change in direction on the engineering side looks to have helped Christina Orr-West as she clocked the sixth fastest time in the first session and followed it up with seventh. Young gun Marco Giltrap improved in both sessions as he learned the challenges of Manfeild's unique layout.

Saturday will see the cars qualifying for the first race oN Saturday afternoon. There'll be two further races for the 12 drivers entered this weekend on Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon.
