Quickfire korero - Brock Gilchrist
Driver Name: Brock Gilchrist
Car Number: 10
Championship position: 4th
Why were you attracted to the championship?
Because all the cars are the same so the racing is so close and all comes down to the driver and how well the car is setup. The media exposure we get could lead to opportunities in the future too.
Season highlight:
Easy – that was getting my first race win in the second race at the last round. It was really exciting for the whole team.
Season lowlight:
Mechanical issues at Pukekohe in the first race and then a driver error in the second race made for unfortunately an average round!
What you enjoyed most about the championship:
I’ve enjoyed the reverse grid races because I feel it mixes up the racing and gives a chance to someone else to potentially get a win rather than it always being the same people at the front.
Why you would recommend it to another driver:
It’s a good category to learn race craft in because the racing is so close
Something valuable you learned as a driver in the Best Bars championship:
To be more aggressive when racing, obviously this year my racecraft was better than previous years but I feel like there is definitely more room to improve.
Plans for next year?
To be back in the Best Bars Toyota 86 Championship and hopefully find an opportunity or two to race an 86 in Australia.
